The presentation went quite well, we all pitched our ideas and it seems Heritage were overwhelmed by the sheer volume of usuable ideas by our group. I've detailed the groups ideas in my reflective journal and i'll list a few of the ideas that i feel are relavent to me and my direction and could be adapted to suit.
But first off I'll reflect on my feedback:
Chris liked the simple organic form my idea is based around. I've noticed that alot of the other idea being generated are very figuarative, being based around objects such as maps, chests, telescopes, fish tanks and other related items. I think by keeping a conceptual form the viewers will play the "cloud game" and interpret it as they see fit. This was done at the presentation, where people said it looked liked currents and waves, or more interestingly sea creatures such as barnicles, plankton or mollusc that had encrusted the ship. This led to the idea of the users, physically changing the space, perhaps writing nots and attaching them to the sculpture to create a literal encrustation of the space. This is an idea i can work work, perhaps using technology to make it a bit more elegant and appealing to the cleaners of the exhibition.
Reguarding the globes themselves thier colour was debated and the was they could be lit, phorspherence was suggested as was chainging the globes to disks, an idea i might try out although I think i'm pretty much set on the globe idea due to the mirror it has to the vortex globe within the experinence.
::TO BE ADDED TOO::
So now i'm off to research mollusc...?

Preparation for First presentation to Heritage 17/04/2008
---*disclaimer*---
Ok, so I haven’t blogged in like a billion years. I really should catch up. There are reasons, but if you’re marking this you should know, and if you’re the general public, its really not any of your business or worth your time to be honest.

Preparation for First presentation to Heritage 17/04/2008
The images below are the presentation sheets I created to pitch my initial concept to Chris at Heritage. The text upon the sheets explains where I'm coming from, links and further explanations are below.

I also created 2 animations to pitch how the environment changes over time. Its a basic visualization that demonstrates how the globes change colour and the sound intensifies as the lobby bustles with crowds.
The main concept is based off W+K studios Nokia Christmas lights in regent street 2007.
I feel this would be a great way to create an interactive installation thats quiet subtle, the users need only to be in its presence to get an interactive experience, leaving the reception area free of clutter. The initial concept has so much potential for variation. I'm going to an elegant form combined with a subtle experience.

Teaser Trailers
As the centre piece is a must entice people into the main show, In an excersise of crossmedia relation I've looked at how movie trailers do the same.
Below are examples of good trailer design (as decided by teh internetz), in where the trialer sets the tone of the feature film but doesn't give much of the plot away.
Dark City
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
Cloverfield (note this one doesn't even name the feature)
This trailer was so bad, the movie didn't even get made... :p
The same theory seems to be applied to other medeiums, book covers & club flyers for example. I'll take alook at them later.

But it seems that i'll have to take the main exhibit and just pick out the bits that really set the tone and entice the viewer.

Intial briefing by chris - Monday 7th
Chris parker from heritage multimedia came in to talk to us about the brief today from the notes I took, here's a run down of what’s required concerning functionality and Target audience.
Function
The Centre piece must basically sell the Cutty Sark experience, its a Teaser to get passers by to part with their money on the Exhibit. Its basically an advert and must be visually 'got' in about 30 seconds.
It must be in tune with and not clutter the space (the reception area) its housed in, complementing the wave crest like glass canopy and blue haze, it must also have a certain presence when seen from the Cutty Sark exhibition itself.
As the Piece is not meant to clutter the space, the interactive element cannot be anymore than about a minute long.
The brief has asked it to be engaging and magical, not giving anything away, prompting the user to find their own interpretation of the ship and space, further luring them into discovering the facts behind the ship within the experience itself.
Due to it being in a public space, and that the public can be a destruct bunch of hooligans at time (read possible cause of Cutty Sark fire, 2007) the piece must be sturdy and robust, and with a shelf life of about 10 years.
Target audience
The Cutty Sark exhibition is aimed at Visitors of all ages, from passers by, tourists to schools and colleges and ship enthusiasts. As the Cutty Sark has visited various ports around the world, people from those countries are expected to visit the Cutty Sark although their is no need to consider multiple languages, if i were to consider them they would be:
I must also consider accessibility to all visitors, wheelchair access being the most obvious, but how do I deliver information to deaf and blind people? Audio vibration and touch perhaps? Whatever i decide to do It should be DDA and RNIB compliment.
I'll need to research into some more specific demographics I think, I've found an article concerning the restoration of the Cutty Sark in the telegraph magazine, so their demographic will be a good place to start.
My thoughts
First and foremost I want my piece to Immersive the viewer in the Cutty Sark experience immediately. Aesthetically I'll try to complement the planned space with curvaceous fluid shapes probably suspended as not to clutter the reception area. I’ve been told that there’s no reason that the design cannot escape the space itself, although I hear the architect is very precious about his glass :p. I want it to be seen at night, advertising to passers by or even those as far as canary wharf the Cutty Sark experience out of hours so that they may come back at some other date.
Even though Heritage would like us to use as much technology as possible, we've been advised to not use technology for technologies sake as it’ll be outdated quickly and the needs of the customer and client come first and foremost.
Due to the massive amounts of light that'll be permeating the glass dome (an opportunity for renewable energy sources maybe) I think using screens would be a bad idea, I need to look into alternating delivery systems, perhaps lots of audio to generate atmosphere and mirror the plans for the Cutty Sark experience.
Most of all my piece, being a teaser trailer for the main show, must really set the tone, giving only snippets of information of what lies in the main attraction.
